Gradekit Privacy Policy

Gradekit (“we”, “our”, or “us”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your choices about your information.

1. Information We Collect

a. Information You Provide

• Account Information: When you log into Gradekit with your Student Information System account (e.g. Aeries, Infinite Campus, etc), we collect information you provide such as your email address and/or username. Your password is securely stored on your local device in the encrypted keychain and may be stored in your iCloud backups if enabled. Your password is never stored on our servers.
• School Directory: If you choose to use our School Directory feature, you may provide your name, graduation year, and list of classes to create a profile that is visible to other students at your school who also join the directory. Your phone number is only used for authentication purposes.
• Customer Support: If you contact us directly (such as through email or SMS), we may receive additional information you choose to share.

b. Information We Collect Automatically

• Usage Data: We use analytics services to understand how you interact with Gradekit. This may include information about the pages or features you use, the time spent in the app, errors or crashes, and your school and district. This information helps us improve Gradekit and fix bugs.
• Device Information: We may collect information about the device you use to access Gradekit, such as device type, operating system, and app version.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate and maintain Gradekit;
• Provide you with access to your classes and grades, which are only retrieved from your school district’s student information system and shown to you;
• Improve, personalize, and expand our services;
• Monitor and protect the security of Gradekit and our users;
• Communicate with you, including responding to support requests.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We do not share your data except in these limited cases:

• Service Providers: We may share information with trusted vendors or service providers who help us operate Gradekit (for example, analytics providers). These providers are only allowed to use information as needed to perform services for us and must protect it.

If you create a School Directory profile, it can be viewed by other verified students from the same school. While we take reasonable steps to verify users, we cannot guarantee with 100% certainty that every directory user is a current student at your school.

4. Compliance with Student Data Protection Laws

Gradekit complies with the Student Online Personal Information Protection Act (SOPIPA) and other applicable student privacy laws. Specifically:

• We do not use student data for targeted advertising.
• We do not create profiles about students beyond what is needed to operate Gradekit.
• We do not sell student data.
• We do not share student data except as described above.

5. SMS Customer Support

All the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.

6. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information. However, no security system is perfect. Please keep your login credentials safe and notify us if you suspect unauthorized access to your account.

7. Your Choices

• Deleting Your Information: If you wish to delete your School Directory profile, you can do so by tapping "Edit Profile" and then tapping "Delete Profile". Your information will be deleted from the directory and you will no longer be able to view or be viewed by other students.

8. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by updating the effective date and, when required, providing additional notice.
